Improved housing for Māori and Pacific - MĀPIHI

MĀPIHI is a new research group dedicated to improving housing quality and supply for Māori and Pacific communities. The programme is based at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland and led by Dr Deidre Brown and Dr Karamia Müller.

This five-year research programme kicked off with a stakeholder hui and Ara Manawa was invited.

The event was hosted at the new Taumata o Kupe Centre, part of Te Mahurehure Marae in Point Chevalier and included hearing about the history of the site from the marae’s Chairperson, marae, Christine Panapa, and a tour of the marae’s new housing facilities. You can read more about the site and new housing development here

While Ara Manawa is predominantly a hospital-based creative team, we need to keep the shift to a localities focus in mind, and address factors that cause avoidable hospitalisations. Working alongside hapū, iwi, NGOs, local and central government agencies, practices and other research entities, MĀPIHI is developing a range of research questions and partnerships. We look forward to ongoing work with this great programme!

You can find more on the MĀPIHI website.
