Medtech-iQ Aotearoa

Since 2010, Aotearoa’s medical technology sector has doubled in size. It has been a quiet achiever, creating new products that are reaching international markets. Supported by Centres of Research Excellence at the University of Auckland, the Consortium for Medical Device Technologies, and more recently Te Titoki Mataora, ventures such as Alimetry, Junofem, and The Insides Company take innovation from Aotearoa to the rest of the world.

Minister of Health Dr. Ayesha Verrall speaking at Medtech-iQ conference in Wellington, 2023.

In February Ara Manawa participated in an innovation showcase at the Beehive to unveil Medtech-iQ Aotearoa, a national medical devices and digital health innovation hub to bolster the sector’s growth and ability to improve health outcomes for New Zealanders.  This initiative will put New Zealand on the map for medical technology innovation internationally, to attract new partners and funding, foster startups and create a more diversified medical technology ecosystem.

Ara Manawa plays a small role in that ecosystem, supporting clinicians to identify and refine hospital opportunities, as well as test prototypes in development to ensure they’ll work in complicated health settings.

A big thank you and congratulations to Dr Di Siew and Dr Peter Hunter for bringing this initiative to life. It was great to see so many of our collaborators together in Wellington!
